This interview was conducted by
Lisa Brown-Gilbert on September 8, 2017.

Today I am interviewing the talented author T. Wayne Bloodworth.

Lisa Brown-Gilbert: What motivated you to become a published author? Primarily, the challenge of scripting an interesting and plausible story. Most writers have a favorite author or genre that they like to read. What is yours?

T. Wayne Bloodworth: Biographies. I’m always interested in people—especially those that are successful or have made a significant contribution to mankind.

Lisa Brown-Gilbert: How did you develop your plot and characters for The Perfect Match?

T. Wayne Bloodworth: I had a central idea surrounding the plot since it involved science and technology and it slowly evolved from there. My main character, Dr. Zack Folsom, was there from the beginning. The supporting characters required more time and I used them to portray two things I value highly, close friends and family.

Lisa Brown-Gilbert: Dr. Zack Folsom is such a complex character. Is he fashioned after anyone you know in real life?

T. Wayne Bloodworth: Not any one particular individual, but a composite of doctors I have known during my surgical career.

Lisa Brown-Gilbert: Throughout the story, you present a great deal of information based on the medical field, worldly foods and fine fashions. How much time did you spend on researching these elements?

T. Wayne Bloodworth: Since I am a surgeon, the medical information was natural. I have been very fortunate to travel and experience the other elements personally. So, I drew on memories more than on research!

Lisa Brown-Gilbert: What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?

T. Wayne Bloodworth: Zack’s trip to Italy was most enjoyable. It brought back memories of my travels to that marvelous country. I also enjoyed the tension-filled scenes in the operating room. They reminded me of similar times that are etched in my memory.

Lisa Brown-Gilbert: In your book, the theme of The Perfect Match plays out quite cleverly. What made you decide to expand this element of the story?

T. Wayne Bloodworth: Actually, I thought there were several “perfect matches”— Zack and his wife, later, Zack and Gabby, Zack’s surgical skill and cardiac surgery and then the biological match. The close relationship of Zack and Armando as friends just needed more. And I love a good twist at the end of a story!

Lisa Brown-Gilbert: It is said hindsight is 20/20 vision. If possible would you go back and change anything about the characters or plot of The Perfect Match?

T. Wayne Bloodworth: The only thing that I might consider would be exploring more of the history of Zack’s parents’. I think that would possibly have enriched the overall story.

Lisa Brown-Gilbert: Do you have anything new you are currently working on?

T. Wayne Bloodworth: I am exploring an idea regarding a “caviar merchant”…

Lisa Brown-Gilbert: Thanks for graciously agreeing to do this interview with me!
