BOOK REVIEW: MASK MARKET
Watch out - Burke is back!
Burke gets involved in a case and it is one very familiar to him. He just finished meeting with a client who gave him very specific details on the person he wants found. As soon as the meeting was over, Burke watched from an alley as his client was gunned down. Is Burke next? This is the question on his mind right now.
After reviewing the dossier handed to him by the late client, Burke soon realizes the missing woman is Beryl Preston. Burke rescued Beryl, when she was only thirteen, from a brutal pimp twenty years ago. The girl was returned to her father.
Burke now knows he must find Beryl again. He has to prove something to himself. Was his rescue mission financed by someone who wanted his "property" returned? What was the relationship between Beryl and the new client who ended up being killed? No matter what, Burke knew he must find Beryl in order to warn her of impending danger.
Is Burke successful?
Andrew Vachss has written a classic dark, hard-boiled mystery that his fans will love. The novel is full of danger and as always it is exciting to see how Burke uses his tracking skills to find someone. It is a special treat to watch Burke work through each piece of the puzzle until he can put it together to come up with an answer. There is plenty of violence so be prepared and a great plot to keep you interested. This is one that hard-boiled mystery fans should not pass on.
