Sara Linton and Jeffrey Tolliver are working hard to make their relationship work. The two have decided to move back in together and try to get back to the place they were before their divorce. An evening walk along an old path leads them to a tragedy almost unbelievable and begins a tale of suspense not to be missed.
Sara trips and falls and when Jeffrey investigates he finds a length of metal pipe sticking out of the ground with a wire screen on top. And underneath that pipe is a coffin of a young girl buried alive. But the horror doesn't end there. It is soon discovered that although the girl might have had a slim chance of surviving the burial a deadly poison has been put down the pipe to make sure there is no chance of survival.
The investigation leads them to a strange family that run a large farm and takes in all kinds of people to work the farm. Sara and Jeffrey soon find that this young girl is not the only one that has been buried although some have survived. The family runs the farm and runs the church where Sara's sister has started to attend services.
As the investigation proceeds they discover that there have been a number of deaths among the workers at the farm and some under suspicious circumstances.
Lena Adams, Jeffrey's detective, has been having a rough time of life herself and more and more she can identify with the wife beatings and cruelty that she is discovering as they delve further into the case. Faithless is a suspenseful, wonderful book and I can't recommend it highly enough.
