BOOK REVIEW: ODD MOM OUT
Marta Zinsser is not your average Mom. She dresses a little different compared to other women her age and drives a Harley!
Marta and her ten year-old daughter, Eva, move from Manhattan to Seattle where she will run her own advertising agency. The best part is that she will be able to work from home. Marta soon finds that she does not “fit in” with the other moms there. She is just not cut out to be your normal mom. Once a conversation starts, the other moms just seem to keep getting on the subject of husbands. They are just dying to find out if Marta is married, divorced or whatever. Marta always managed to change the subject. The real truth is that Eva was born through a sperm donor.
Eva would like for her mother to be a normal mom. Marta does try and gives in a little to changing some of her ways but would still like to remain the person she is and keep her “uniqueness”.
What happens when Marta meets someone who could be the “man of her dreams”?
The author does an excellent job with the character of Marta Zinsser who is to be admired for sticking up for her rights to remain an individual. Marta takes her daughter’s feelings into consideration and does try to accommodate her wishes in certain ways. However, she still keeps part of her individualness. Single moms have to make difficult choices that affect their family and this book sheds light on how important these decisions can be. Jane Porter also emphasizes how important friends can be to a single mom by giving her much needed support. Be sure to read “Odd Mom Out”. It is a book that has great characters, makes important points that will make you think about certain things in life and is an entertaining read.
