Lies and deceit can do many things to a person. It certainly did to Lauren Stillwell.

Lauren Stillwell is a NYPD homicide detective who is married to Paul who is a successful fund broker. One day, Lauren observed Paul entering a hotel with a beautiful woman. Paul told Lauren he was having lunch at the office. When Paul came home, Lauren asked him what he did for lunch. She tried to give him a chance to explain but he only lied.

Lauren ended up having an affair with Scott Thayer who is an undercover police officer. Paul ends up killing Scott who does not realize that Lauren is looking out the window and knows exactly what happened. She assumed he did this because she was having an affair with Scott. Was that the reason?

Things quickly get more interesting when Lauren and her partner, Detective Mike Ortiz are assigned to ivestigate Scott’s murder. Lauren is now trying to cover up for Paul.

As time goes on, more and more secrets start to come out in the open.

Does Lauren continue to risk her own reputation by continuing to cover up for Paul?

I don’t know how James Patterson can do this one book after another but he and Michael Ledwidge have put together a book that is full of surprises. Just when you think you start to understand one incident something else happens. This audio book will keep you on the edge of your seat. This is one of those great mysteries that include murder, romance, action and plenty of suspense. If you are a fan of James Patterson, this has to be one of his best books and he has written many outstanding books. Be sure to add “The Quickie” to your list. You don’t want to miss out on this thriller.
