BOOK REVIEW: THE HUSBAND
What would you do for love?
The author states that most people don't even think about death unless one is very ill or old. However, for Mitchell Rafferty the meaning of death came to him much sooner - he was three weeks short of his 28th birthday.
Mitch received a call on his cell phone. He answered the phone "Big Green" which is the name of his two-man business. On the other end, he heard his wife Holly saying, "Mitch I love you - whatever happens I love you." Mitch heard a man talking in the background and it sounded like whatever Holly was trying to say was silenced by what sounded like a slap. The man on the phone told Mitch that he had his wife and in order to get her back Mitch must give him two million dollars cash within 60 hours. Mitch tried to explain that he was only a gardener and had $11,000 in the bank. The response was "We know". The man told Mitch he would find a way. Mitch was also warned that if he went to the police Holly would be cut apart piece by piece.
The man asked Mitch if he saw a pedestrian walking nearby. Mitch saw a man walking his dog. In a few minutes the man was shot and killed. This was done in order to prove to Mitch how serious this threat was to Holly.
Mitch did call the police but only to report that a man had been shot.
What does Mitch do to handle this situation?
The author's opening statement in this book gives the reader a good idea as to what they are in for because after reading the first sentence the excitement and suspense continues to build from this point on. There are no dull moments in this book. Dean Koontz is well known for his novels of suspense and this novel does not disappoint. If you are looking for a book that will hold you captive, keep you in suspense and thoroughly entertain you, this is the one to add to your reading list!
