Novelist, Cassandra King, has written the story of every older woman's
life, Queen of Broken Hearts. Conceding to the fact that fiction's
primary role in literature is narrative; it is incumbent upon readers to
codify the emotional subtext of a novel for themselves. What a mouthful!
But, so very true about Queen of Broken Hearts.
Fairhope Alabama is the home of Clare Ballenger. Fairhope is the type of town predominant in the American South. It is filled with eccentric folks, the type that make gossip the fourth meal of the day and that support the survival of similar towns across the United States. Clare has an unusual job. She is a divorce therapist, a professional who helps men and women through the horror and life wrenching experience of problem marriages, sometimes helping to heal the marriage. Oftentimes, divorce therapists assist families through the dirvorce process.
Of course, Clare Ballenger can help everyone except herself! To the world, she is a smiling and thoroughly professional therapist. Just under the surface, lurk Clare's carefully buried secrets. Clare needs a good friend and she find just that in Lex Yarborough, a recently divorced and resettled sea captain from the state of Maine. After a while, their relationship progresses to more than friendship and Claire is ready to run! Clare does not want to commit to anyone or anything. However, Clare must make up her mind or she will lose Lex. She begins to understand what she really wants when Lex tries to reconcile with his former wife.
This is a wonderful story because it is about the love that evolves from the friendship of two older people. Rarely, does this writer find a book that keeps her spellbound from start to finish. If you want a truly feel good type of novel, please read Queen of Broken Hearts.
