BOOK REVIEW: THE PROTÉGÉ
Christian Gillette has it all. At a very young age, he is chairman of one of the most successful equity firms. Even with all the ruthless competition in the world, Christian has managed to make many more acquisitions. These include an ex-rival's sinking firm and a Las Vegas NFL franchise.
A man approaches Gillette and makes him an offer that turns out to be something more valuable than money. The man offered information on Gillette's mother and the truth about his father's suspicious death. This meant a great deal to Gillette because he never knew his mother. All Gillette had to do was use one of his companies as a "cover up" for the new technology, which could end up being a deadly weapon of terror.
Gillette has some other problems to deal with. David Wright, a young managing director, who is also Gillette's protégé is acting weird. There are some things going on in David's life that Gillette doesn't know about. Then there is Allison Wallace who bought her way into Everest. Everest landed the deal to invest part of the Wallace family's twenty billion dollar fortune with the condition that Allison is taken on as a managing partner.
An attempt is made on Gillette's life and he thinks his past is coming back to haunt him but is it? Could it be someone from the inside who is out to get Christian Gillette?
This novel is the sequel to 'The Chairman". This book is written in typical Stephen Frey style - fast paced and full of plenty of twists and turns. It is always interesting to read Frey's books because they involve the world of high finance along with the mystery. If you are looking for a book with plenty of thrills, action and suspense, this is the one for you. It is not necessary to read "The Chairman" first but I would recommend it. You will enjoy that one too!
