Where Memories Lie is another in the Duncan Kincaid and Gemma James series. This novel is number twelve for Deborah Crombie.

Gemmaís friend, Erika Rosenthal, never talked very much about her personal life. She did tell Gemma that she and her husband, who has since passed away, came to London from Nazi Germany. They were lucky enough to escape. Her father, a jeweler, had plans to join them but died in one of the camps.

Erika did not know where to begin but she needed Gemmaís help. Her father created a piece of jewelry for her as a parting gift. It was the most beautiful piece of all the jewelry he created. This piece of jewelry was stolen from Erika many years ago and now has appeared in a catalog of a London auction house. The last time Erika saw it was about fifty years ago. How did it end up at a London auction house?

Erika believes there is a connection between her husbandís death and the piece of jewelry. His death was classified as a suicide. Was it murder?

Gemma knows this will not be an easy case to solve. It means getting into the secret world of Londonís monied society. Gemma needs help when a couple of people who are connected to the London auction house are murdered. She enlists the help of Duncan Kincaid in order to try and solve the case.

Are Gemma and Duncan successful at finding out the truth about Davidís death and the piece of jewelry?

Deborah Crombie has written a novel that is very interesting to the reader because not only is there a current day plot going on but the book also takes us back in history to the dreadful time in Nazi Germany with the Jews. This author does an outstanding job of writing this British mystery series because they are always complex and entertaining. The characters are well drawn and readers will especially like the ongoing chemistry between Gemma and Duncan. Deborah Crombie fans will be thrilled with this latest addition. Be sure to add Where Memories Lie to your reading list.
