Eliza Blake, single mother and well-known television personality is hosting a party for Constance Young, anchorwoman on KEY to America. Constance has just resigned this position to go to work for a competitor. Eliza previously held the position on KEY to America before moving to The KEY evening news.

Eliza and Constance are two very different personalities. Eliza loves her little girl very much and does her best to be a good mother and to treat her co-workers with respect and consideration. Constance is very self-centered and in no way concerned with the feelings of her fellow works.

The going away party is a success but reveals that Constance was not the most loved person in the world. Not only does she treat her fellow co-workers badly but also she does nothing to help her sister Faith with the care of their bed-ridden mother.

When Constanceís body is found floating in her swimming pool the morning following the party and the death is deemed to be a homicide, the number of people who held grudges against Constance are numerous.

Jason Vaughn is an author who considers Constance the reason that he lost his reputation, his job and his wife. Constanceís death may make Jasonís book hit the bestseller list.

To add to the intrigue one of Constanceís admirers gave her a famous unicorn necklace and although she agreed never to wear the necklace in public, she wore it on TV and the necklace was not the admirerís to give and now the necklace is gone.

The executive producer of KEY to America, Linus Nazareth, was more than pleased to have his girlfriend, Lauren Adams step into the position previously held by Constance.

When Eliza and three of her co-workers, Annabelle Murphy, B. J. DíElia and Dr. Margo Gonzalez put their heads together to try and figure out who murdered Constance their own lives are put in jeopardy.

I liked the characters in the book and I was unsure up to the very end who the person was that was responsible for the death of Constance Young. When Day Breaks also gives the reader some idea of what goes on behind the scenes to bring the news to the viewing public.
