BOOK REVIEW: THE PINK PANTHER'S JUST DESSERTS
Anyone that has seen any of the “Pink Panther” movies will enjoy this humorous book. Inspector Jacques Clouseau continues his bumbling investigative work and his murder of the English language! Ponton, Clouseau’s assistant detective, also appears regularly with the “smartest bumbling detective” in France.
Someone is killing all the top chefs of France just before the big contest in Las Vegas to find the nation with the top chefs of the world. This is a severe disaster since France has won the coveted title the previous year and fully intends to win again. But if there are not enough chefs to plan and cook the best dishes anywhere, France cannot win. As you might guess, Chief Inspector Dreyfus had to come to America with his able assistant’s, especially Inspector Clouseau, to “protect” the French chefs. Mix some American detectives with the top police in France, and you have an understandable batch of self-made problems!
Having these top-notch detectives in Las Vegas could and would be a daunting effort. How does even a city as large as Las Vegas keep them under control and still maintain a constant watch of the chefs? How many Elvis’s are there in Vegas? How many gorgeous gals? How many Clouseau’s? Yes, you are correct—too many! You will get many laughs as you correlate all these characters you know from the movies with the book. I had never read a Pink Panther book but I found it very entertaining. Don’t read this book if you want a serious murder mystery, but do read if you enjoy the wit and humor these characters present, along with their strange accents. It is an easy read, not making the top list of serious murder mysteries, but certainly very humorous.
