Do you have painful memories that you ignore? The answer is probably yes for most people. The question is how do we deal with these memories?
Dr. Ablow states that when we ignore or bury painful memories or experiences, it can negatively affect every aspect of our lives.
Dr. Ablow begins this self-help book with two very important items that he feels are necessary for anyone trying to get help with painful memories. The first is his promise to become your partner in helping you improve your life. This is his commitment to you. The second is your pledge to him. He wants you to pledge to read this book cover to cover and to do so within thirty days. Getting to your painful memories will not be an easy task and he wants you to promise not to lose faith as you work together.
If you were to tell someone the story of your life, would you be completely truthful? Dr. Ablow gives the reader a detailed description of the four fictions. When emotional pain is repressed, Dr. Ablow describes what can happen by defining the four faces of pain. There are many other detailed chapters that deal with strategies for dealing with painful memories.
Dr. Ablow has written an inspirational self-help book that will encourage people to take the first step to face their painful memories. At the end of each chapter the reader will find checklists and written exercises to complete. The book is written in a format that is easy for the reader to understand. If anyone feels they need help in dealing with painful memories, this book is an excellent resource. This book is highly recommended.
