Featured Book - Daughter of Careful-ish:  What Have We Learned?  Nothing! by Honey Parker

daughterofcarefulishmed.jpg

It starts with a hangover. How will it end?

Six socially, financially and ethnically diverse friends in New York City are struggling through the new normal of pandemic living. They aim to maintain their sanity, paychecks, social and sex lives, and a weekly video-chat drinking date.

They endure poor judgement, falls from grace, self-reflection, parental pressure, and exhibit a surprising amount of heart.

Life during lockdown is a heightened affair (and there are affairs). This friends comedy is funny, fast, and has the madness that makes living under the social media microscope so crazy.

The gang's social ringleader is The Joy. (Yes, she insists on the article in front of her name.) Big, self-decidedly beautiful, and larger than life, The Joy is living the least careful-ishly of the bunch when she's slapped with a sobering task: flying to Florida to care for her ever-disapproving mother after a freak golf ball accident. The cocktail crazy, sexually promiscuous madness of Mom's maskless 55+ social circle is a shocker, even for The Joy.

Meanwhile, back in NY, the gang does their level best to survive the ramifications of their own hilariously poor, cocktail-infused decisions. Laughter ensues.

Featured Book -Mystery at the Blue Sea Cottage:  A True Story of Murder in San Diego's Jazz Age by James Stewart

mysteryattheblueseacottagemed.jpg

Set in Jazz Age San Diego against the backdrop of yellow journalism, notorious Hollywood scandals, Prohibition corruption and a lively culture war, Mystery at the Blue Sea Cottage tells the intriguing true story of a beautiful dancer, a playboy actor, and a debonair doctor.

In January 1923, Fritzie Mann left home and drove to a remote cottage by the sea to meet a man whose identity she would forever keep a secret. The next morning, the barely clad body of the beautiful and bewitching dancer washed up on lonely Torrey Pines beach, her party dress and possessions strewn about.

The scene baffled investigators. Was it suicide, murder, or an accidental drowning? A botched autopsy created more questions than it answered. However, the investigation revealed a scandalous secret and, possibly, a powerful motive for murder.

Journalists in southern California hyped the case, but when Fritzie's Hollywood connections came to light the investigation shifted to L.A. and the story became a nation-wide sensation. An ambitious District Attorney battled a high-profile L.A. private counsel in the most sensational trial in San Diego's history. The big question: What happened at the Blue Sea Cottage?
