BROKLA: THE TALE OF THINGS FALLING APART
BY SIMON PLASTER
A former foreign government think tank expert predicts the U.S.A. will soon come apart at the seams, starting with "Texit": Secession of the State of Texas.
* J. H. "Big Red" Williams, head of the University of Oklahoma Board of Regents -- and ardent OU fan -- sets out to protect the Sooners' bigtime football program against danger of the University of Texas bailing out of the Big 12 Conference.
* Major John J. "Jay Jay" Shoates, Quartermaster of the Oklahoma National Guard -- certain that prediction of "Texit" represents a dire military threat -- takes action to counter expected invasion of Oklahoma by Texicans allied with Mexico and Russia.
* Jane a/k/a "Calamity Jane" Burrows meanwhile leads an uprising of Oklahoma women in a progressive Cause of ridding the Plains of White's Man's civilization.
In the process of covering these and other disturbances for a local newspaper, Henrietta frets that the socio-political fabric of Oklahoma -- like that of the entire country -- may be tenuously held together by a single fraying thread, to wit: Waning shared love of football.
